I test knit Julie's Strada Headband pattern, and clearly this is the worlds cutest headband. I'm crazy for the bow! It's just such a perfect, quintessential bow shape. The next time I need a bow to adorn a project (and I'm starting to think that it's a mistake that more of my projects don't have bows) I'm going to be using this pattern.
I knit mine with just under half a skein of TFA Yellow Label DK Weight yarn in the Atlantic colourway. This was a really quick and effective knit, great for leftover yarn and the perfect knitted gift. Yay Julie!

On another note, I spent an afternoon dyeing one of a kind colourways for the Etsy shop last week. Most were snatched up over the weekend, but there are still a few of my personal faves available.
What yarn weight/bases are you guys mostly looking for in the One of a Kind Etsy shop? A little bit of everything? Mostly sock yarns? Sweater quantities of Aran and DK? I really enjoyed my afternoon of dyeing without any rules and plan on doing it more often, but I'd love to hear what you all think!

That's a really pretty headband :)
ReplyDeleteRegarding yarns -- definitely sweater quantity, in fingering and worsted weights -- maybe some aran. I get frustrated on Etsy when I see sellers offering great yarn colourways, only to find there's only 1 skein available. Sweater quantities (especially for the curvier lady) would be so much better!
Oh, and in particular -- colours that will carry lace well. I love knitting lace (hence my site at knitlace.com)... Some colourways conflict, but equally some solids are boring, if you know what I mean.
And yes, I confess: I've yet to try some TFA. But I will. Soon. Promise. :)
Thank you!
i agree with all Heatherwitch said. and i really love the rosy purple-y color you have up now, as it looks to be a semi-solid. i wish i had yarn in the budget right now so i could snap it up!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Some sweater quanities would be nice.
ReplyDeleteI totally stalk your Etsy store for when it's updated with one of a kinds.
I would love to see the odd Silver label or Red label.
I loved the pink labels that I bought but wish that I could get an extra skein if I wanted to knit something specific with it.
I do LOVE the color choices in the 1ofaKinds :-)
I miss some of the multi colored sock yarns you used to do, and would love to see some one offs of those.
ReplyDeleteFor bases, purple label would be my to choice, followed by red and blue label. Sweater quantities of any weight yarn would be nice - purple label would make a really dreamy sweater
I have yet to try TFA yarns, I just find my LYS only ever has sock weights in stock. I'd love to try aran and dk weights, not necessarily sweater quantities but one or two skeins as well for smaller projects!
ReplyDeleteThat headband and the red lipstick make me think of the 20's and flappers. You could totally pull a 20's look off!
I know you've kind of got out of the spinning fiber business, but I love when there are braids of your roving on the etsy shop.
ReplyDeleteI love the OOAKs, such a fun way to snap up something for an extra special knit. The Navy Copper looks so cool!
ReplyDeleteColors are beautiful. I find DK to be so versatile for so many different types of garments and projects!
ReplyDeleteWool - actual wool, not superwash, and not merino. Real, bouncy, grippy wool with some body and some bite. Wool that keeps you warm and wool that lasts long enough to justify all the time that goes into the beautiful hand dyeing and handcrafting to make a finished object. That's what I want in that kind of a store.
ReplyDeleteI love the OOAK shop, especially when there are sweater quantities of the yellow or green label.
ReplyDeleteLove the OOAKs. Sweat quantity would be great. I prefer yellow or green label. Colors - Blues, berries and gray too!
ReplyDeleteI love all OOAK, all colors, all bases... But since Purple Label is my favorite base, I would say more Purple Label!
ReplyDeleteYour OOAK shop is so enticing ... I'm partial to the yellow label but truly, I'd buy an OOAK in any weight as they're all so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOMG that Kryptonite is AWESOME!!! I didn't even realise you had an etsy shop, thanks for the link :)
ReplyDeleteso cute!!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would love to find some beautifully dyed yarn in the heavier weights - DK and up.
ReplyDeleteSock yarn is easy to find in any colorway you can imagine but if you want a heavier weight, most of the time you're SOL and that makes me sad because I don't make shawls or socks so I like the heavier weights.
About a bow: I think a bow on the back of a sweater would look very cute! Like a nice fitted sweater or shirt where it scrunches there is a bow in the middle center back! =D
ReplyDeleteooh. I would love to snatch up enough of something gorgeous to make the effortless cardigan- love love love your blues! what good timing as my birthday is in feb ;) still watching the OOAK's for something that is close to link granite too, I love some grey with a splash of pink for some girly accessories. thanks for making me look great in my knits.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute headband! Love the OOAK offerings especially the Sunday, yellow Label. I have a few skeins of Aran in Lilac but it's already getting too warm to think about heavy knits!
